A Tesla driver was the target of a vicious assault after a fellow motorist boxed her in with his car and started punching her repeatedly

Going by the moniker "Susan," the woman, who wishes to remain unknown, told news outlet that she was being pursued by a car on Route 66 near Flagstaff, Arizona. "I didn’t buy my car for a political statement. I bought my car because its really fun to drive. My politics have nothing to do with that. I’m ashamed of our society and what they are doing," she said in a statement.

According to KTVK, Susan has footage of the event that shows a driver in a green automobile approaching her, swerving in front of her, and then boxing her in. Susan informed the station that the driver then got out of his vehicle, approached her while she was driving her Tesla, and started striking her.

“I started to say, 'You cut me off, what’s your problem,' but I didn’t know how much he heard me,” Susan recounted to KTVK. “He got out and started to punch me with a closed fist.”

Susan informed the station that she quickly bit her assailant's hand; at one time, the man can be seen on camera shaking and removing his hand from the Tesla. Shortly after, the male driver's passenger can be seen getting out of the green car, dragging the assailant away, and then driving away.

“I’m just appalled,” Susan said. “I didn’t buy my car for a political statement. I bought my car because its really fun to drive. My politics have nothing to do with that. I’m ashamed of our society and what they are doing."

Police said Robert Artherton, 33, was reprimanded and is due in court Monday.

Officers were called to "a road rage incident that escalated into a violent encounter" around 12:30 p.m., according to the police statement. Investigators stated a Tesla and a Chevrolet Cavalier were involved in the collision, according to a March 19 KSAZ-TV report.

The event sparked controversy since Tesla dealerships and drivers have been the focus of attacks in recent weeks, seemingly in retaliation for Musk, the CEO of the electric vehicle, playing a key position in President Trump's White House.

According to a criminal complaint, a dealership was the target of a graffiti and Molotov cocktail attack in March, resulting in damage ranging from $5,000 to $20,000. The suspect entered a not guilty plea.

The three offenders charged with vandalism against the electric vehicle manufacturer could spend up to 20 years behind bars, according to US Attorney General Pam Bondi.
