A baby has tragically been found dead at a family daycare centre after "neighbours heard screams" - as police probe the mystery death.
Emergency services were called to Balinga Dr home in Skye in south-east Melbourne shortly after 2pm on Wednesday following the discovery of a dead baby. Despite the efforts of paramedics, the baby sadly could not be revived at the scene.
The daycare centre has been cordoned off by police as they investigate the death after multiple neighbours of the property heard screams coming from the daycare centre. At least six police cars were seen outside. The cause of death is currently unknown.
According to local media, the daycare is run from a private home and looks after a small group of babies each day. It is currently listed as "exceeding" national standards, with the facility licenced and government-regulated.
"Police will prepare a report for the coroner following the death of an infant at a family day care facility in Skye,' a police statement read. "An investigation into the circumstances is ongoing but the death is not being treated as suspicious."
