RALEIGH, N.C. (WNCN) — An earthquake hit just inside the Virginia border on Sunday afternoon, officials say.
The 3.0 magnitude quake hit at 2:12 p.m. near the borders of West Virginia, Virginia and Maryland.
According to reports from the US Geological Survey, the quake was clearly felt up to 28 miles away in Martinsburg, W.Va.
The quake happened about 5 kilometers underground in the defined region of Potomac-Shenandoah, the government agency reported.
A much larger quake — 5.8 in magnitude — hit about 100 miles south of the area in August 2011 and shook folks all the way down to Charlotte, NC and further south.
