A16-year-old pregnant girl was found brutally murdered in Brazil, with authorities saying a suspect cut the teenager's unborn baby out of her womb and planned to keep the infant.

The Civil Police of Mato Grosso identified the teenager as Emelly Beatriz Azevedo Sena.

A woman, identified as the perpetrator of the young woman's death, confessed to the facts and will be charged with the crimes of triple-qualified homicide (vile motive, cruel means and means that prevented the victim from defending herself), concealment of a corpse and for registering someone else's birth as her own," the Civil Police of Mato Grosso said in a statement via Google Translate.

The Specialized Homicide and Personal Protection Unit (DHPP) said the suspect "coldly confessed" and admitted to planning and committing the murder in in Cuiabá.

DHPP said the suspect's goal was to keep the teenager's baby and claim it was her own child.

To carry out the crime, the woman lured Emelly with promises of clothing donations and took her to a house in the Jardim Florianópolis neighborhood, belonging to her brother, where she killed and hid the minor's body," authorities said.
Police found the teenager's body buried in a shallow grave, with part of her leg visible," the statement noted. "The victim's belly was open, indicating a situation of forced labor, in addition to showing signs of hanging, strangulation and asphyxiation. She had internet cables wrapped around her neck, hands and legs; and two plastic bags on her head."

Authorities said they launched an investigation Wednesday after the teenager was reported missing. They said she left her home in Várzea Grande when the suspect offered her the clothing.

Police were contacted when the suspect and her husband went to an area hospital "with a newborn baby in their arms," saying she just gave birth at their home.

The medical team attended to the child, but the woman refused to be seen," authorities said. "After a while, the woman accepted treatment, at which time gynecological and laboratory tests were performed, which confirmed that the patient was not in the postpartum period. When she went to breastfeed the child, it was also found that she was not producing breast milk, and it was possible that the patient was not the child's mother."

That's when employees at the hospital called police. The couple was then taken in for questioning.

"After hearing the couple and with information about the disappearance of the young pregnant woman, the team from the DHPP Missing Persons Unit arrived at the residence, where the body was found," authorities said.

In the statement, police said the suspect's brother and a friend were questioned and released. Police said "there was no evidence against them to file a report."

DHPP Police Chief Caio Fernando Alvares Albuquerque also said while the husband, brother and friend weren't charged, authorities are working to determine if the trio was involved with the murder, burial, or the attempted cover up.

“The investigations continue and all information is being checked to find evidence that may indicate the participation of other people in the execution of the victim," the chief said.

"Those whose participation was identified will be duly identified as having participated in the crime."
